I still have to laugh about the moment I discovered that you would listen to a woman the same way another woman listens to a woman. I appreciate your being straight forward and not trying to pretend you are that you are someone you’re not.- Tracie M., 38, Financial Planner Read More

When symptoms or problems threaten to erode your (or your family's) health and well-being, psychotherapy has been demonstrated not only to provide relief, but also long-term personal growth and heightened emotional knowledge. This helps to insulate you against the further innumerable challenges in life. Psychotherapy allows you to better understand yourself and others, leading to greater satisfaction in all aspects of life— in work, love, family and play.Biography
Dr. Jim Wayland has been in private practice 25 years. The focus of his practice is with adults and adult issues. His approach to psychotherapy is known for offering encouragement to people who have been struggling with ongoing emotional problems and discouragement. Instead of ongoing, continuing discouragement in life, Dr. Wayland’s encouragement therapy helps in finding new and better alternatives to daily living, having emotional balance and rediscovering pleasure in life.
Dr. Wayland finds that often there are two levels of life-issues; the presenting issue and the underlying life-long issues. The presenting issue is the issue –the current uncomfortable issue-- that brings a person to counseling therapy. The life-long issues are usually unresolved problems and traumas of the past. They are the reasons many people continue to experience problems, fears, discouragement, and feelings of trauma that never seem to clear up and go away. These issues are usually from one’s past and may include a history of abuse, life-long low self-esteem, family of origin concerns, e.g., loss of family connections and abandonment. Regardless of the presenting issue, the life-long issues must also be explored for successful resolution and completion of psychotherapy.

He is known nationally and internationally for his work with addictions – alcohol, drugs and sexual addictions. Jim is a member of the Texas Medical Association’s Speakers Bureau.
